Age 54 here... I enjoyed these shows they were the end of my touring days over 400 shows. Not trying to be cynical here yet why doesn't the one who asks

state his age?, Enough raging on each other everyone's got the rite to comment young or old. .

How Old Are You...Who Cares!!!!
Age doesn't matter, maturity does. If a person likes a show enough to rate it five stars calling them out won't change their feelings. Respect their feelings

and keep your negativity to yourself. How any of us rate any show from the Grateful Dead is all about feeling. If you didn't feel it, that's cool. If you did, great, tell me about because I love reading about good times!

Great show! Went to the 3rd night
This is wonderful. I just have to wonder, though, why do people go out of their way to look up a show so they can say it sucks? That's beyond me. In any

event, this second set is so good, and they make it seem so effortless and fluid. Can't wait to see the show from the 19th on the big screen!

Agree! Best Show....
Seen them earlier, but I was so lucky to have been at these shows. AMAZING!! They were banned until 2002 from Alpine Valley after that. We camped for 4

nights...it rained and rained. Estimates say 400,000+ attended these shows. The estimates were from the National Guard that flew over(my g-pa was one of them). It was WI's first state of emergency for having too much fun. LOL NEVER have seen anything like it to date! What a "trip" it was....Damn special!! :)

playing with inspiration? Better yet, did you ever SEE the Dead when they were inspired? If everyone stated their age it would put comments like these in perspective. Then we'd know what frame of reference you have (a nice way of saying do you know what the hell you're talking about?)

I finally "saw" this show
I was at every Alpine Valley show from 1984 to 1988 but I spent the summer of 1989 in Vermont so I missed the 1989 shows. I was absolutely stoked to

learn that the July 18th show was going to be shown at a local theater here in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I thoroughly enjoyed this concert. I'm sure it meant more to me because this was a show that I normally would have been at, but either way, it was a good performance. Hightlights for me were Jack Straw, Jack-a-Roe, Scarlet Begonias, China Doll and them coming back to Sunshine Daydream several songs later. I knew they would finish it off, but to come back after such a long time was extremely satisfying and fun. The other highlight was the video itself. I honestly thought that it would be one long stationary wide shot of the band ... and I would have been okay with that. But all the close-ups and facial expressions were just priceless. I hope to see many, many more of these shows!

Just another '89 show
Some decent moments, but as usual for post-coma Dead these shows really go nowhere. I was there and was very bored, thinking of how hot Alpine was in

'84 and '85 before they oversold the heck out of the place, before the idiots without tix showed up, and when the band was really, really on, esp '85. (Not to mention '81 and '82 although i wasn't there for those two, was there '84-'89.) '89 had some moments but a dog year for sure, the shows don;t go anywhere. You'd hear a great China Rider then a measly little Playin' jam for 7-9 minutes then something like Take You Home out of space. Just takes the whole wind out of the show. Like this show - Scarlet into Women R Smarter? Are you kidding me? It was very lame. I love their attitude, basically do what we want when we want, but let's not kid ourselves - this was simply not enjoyable on any level. I was missing the phenomenal power of the mind-blowing Scarlet > Fire's at Poplar Creek in '83 and Merriweather in '85, and how nice it would have been to hear one that day. They make the show. Or even another Scarlet > Eyes like the first Frost show in '85 (very nice). The crowds were so fake and contrived, so few real Heads by '89. Too many lame little scenes of poeple doing what they thought they should be doing, sucking nitrous and ripping people off, instead of just hanging out with true hippies. I'm glad they stayed on the road as long as they did but let's not mislead readers to think these years were good.
